Heinkel
Heinkel was founded by Ernst Heinkel, a German aircraft designer, in 1927 at Warnemünde. The company's first success was the He 70 "Blitz", which was a high speed mail plane and passenger aircraft. It broke speed records during 1932. Heinkel also created the He 111 "Doppel-Blitz", also a passenger aircraft. During the Spanish Civil War and World War II, these two aircraft were converted into bombers. Even though the company is famous for bombers, Heinkel also designed fighters, the He 112 and 100. The 112 was a single-seat monoplane fighter with an open cockpit which was one of the Bf 109's rival during the RLM fighter competition. The He 100 was rejected due to political reasons even though it broke speed records. Later during the war, Heinkel produced the only Luftwaffe heavy bomber, the He 177 "Greif". It also produced a purpose built night fighter, the He 219 "Uhu", which was not mass-produced due to political issues.
